S
hiloh High School has established one of the top swimming and diving programs in Georgia. The school, which opened in 1984, didn't take long to make a splash in Georgia H.S. Swimming when Mark Booth won the State Championship in the 200 I.M. in 1987. In the next few years Booth along with Clay Tippins would add more individual state titles and by 1991 the men's team placed 2nd at the State Championship meet. At that meet Clay Tippins won the 200 Free and defended his title in the 100 Fly with a state record time that still stands today. The following year, in 1992 the boy's team won their first State Championship and became the first Gwinnett County School team to accomplish this feat. Shiloh won two relays and finish second in the other. The 200 Free Relay time of 1:25.38 remains a county and state record today. In the women's competition that same year, Shiloh's Sara Gieske won the 200 Freestyle with a time of 1:53.24.

T
he men's team lost the 1993 state championship by one point to Dalton but Shawn McNew won titles in both the 200 I.M. and 100 Back. On the girls side Sara Gieske successfully defended her title and won the 200 Free again in 93. The boy's team returned in 1994 with only six swimmers but still managed to win the 1994 State Championship. The '94 teammates of Shawn McNew, Jim Heitner, Brock Newman, Steve Simonton, Brian Keen and Steve Lewter were named the "Super Six". The team dominated the meet and scored 297 points. Americus H.S. finished 2nd with 168 pts.

B
rock Newman won the 1955 state title in the 100 Fly but by the next year all of the "Super Six" were gone and it was time for Shiloh to rebuild. Between 96 and 99 Shiloh and Gwinnett County focused on building programs that offered better practices times and facilities. The average high school athlete now had a chance to compete in a sport once dominated by year around swimmers. While many of the "typical" USS swimmers were moving out of the Shiloh cluster, the Generals would now have to rely on good athletes who came off the soccer, football and baseball fields to compete in the pool. Despite the challenge, both men's and women's teams at Shiloh show continued improvement and Shiloh established a successful diving program.

S
hiloh returned to the ranks of state powerhouses in 2000 when both the men and women teams placed in the top ten at the State Championships. The boys team 5th place finish in 2000 began the current five year streak of Top Ten finishes at the state meet, a feat only 3 other high schools in Georgia have accomplished. The divers also added to Shiloh's return to glory when Nick Ivey won the 2002 State Title. Also since 2000 the boys 200 Free Relay has placed no lower than 3rd, a streak unequaled by any other Georgia High School. Brendan Forbes('00) and Adam Bilbrey('04) both won State Runner-up titles and anchored some of the fastest relays in team (and State) history during this Top 3 streak.

S
hiloh Swimmers and Divers have moved on to compete at many of the top college programs in the Country including Stanford, Tennessee, Auburn, Arizona State, Georgia Tech, Georgia Southern, Middlebury(Vt) College, Clemson, Kentucky and VMI.
